GARLIC Garlic has a reputation in folklore for preventing almost everything and it has been used extensively in herbal medicine. The body does not seem to build up a resistance to it as it does to many modern antibiotics. Numerous modern studies confirm that garlic has definite antibiotic properties and is effective against many bacteria, fungi and viruses. Raw garlic is the best but hard on the taste buds. Microwave the cloves for about 10 to 15 seconds on high-let cool. The cloves will be softened a bit and much easier to eat.
DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING Getting more exercise not only makes you look and feel better but it can also help to keep your heart healthy. Even a short burst of activity, like shovelling the driveway, mowing your lawn or climbing the stairs can get your heart pumping and help boost circulation. With regular exercise you can start to notice the difference within a matter of weeks. In addition to helping to control blood pressure, blood sugar levels and cholesterol, proper exercise can also help you to lose or maintain weight. Your heart is a muscle and like other muscles, it will get stronger through physical activity-particularly cardiovascular exercise, like walking, swimming and dancing - which works the heart and lungs. The stronger your heart is, the slower it has to work to pump blood efficiently around your body. This places less stress on your heart, leading to a healthier and more relaxed cardiovascular system.Physical activity also gives you more energy and can help reduce stress. You don't have to join a gym or a special exercise class, it’s easy to become more active simply by adding more activity into your everyday life. Acording to Canada’s Physical Activity Guide, experts say accumulate 60 minutes of physical activity every day to stay healthy or improve your health. As you progress to moderate activities you can cut down to 30 minutes, 4 days a week. Add up your activities in periods of at least 10 minutes each. Start slowly… and build up. CHERRIES I have 2 cherry trees in my backyard (along with 2 apple trees and 1 pear tree) so I did some research on how cherries can benefit your health. I have read that not only can they help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke but they can relieve gout. Gout is a painful rheumatic disease. It causes inflammation of the joints and often starts in the feet or toes. When buying cherries make sure the stems are green. Cherries only keep for a few days so buy them only when you are going to eat then right away. Store cherries dry and wash them as needed because they can spoil in the refrigerator when washed ahead of time. To make cherry juice simply wash, stem, pit and crush the cherries, then heat them in a saucepan and press the mixture through a strainer. Refrigerate for several hours and pour off the clear juice.
ACUPRESSURE Acupressure is acupuncture without the needles. Instead you use finger or hand pressure. This something you can do yourself and costs nothing but the time spent to learn the pressure points for different ailments. What I have read so far on the subject does make sense. When your head hurts, you rub your temples. When your stomach aches, you bend over and hold the place where it hurts. Apparently acupressure can reduce pain from sports injuries, relieve insomnia, alleviate digestive problems, and prevent the development of illnesses, among other things. There are different pressure points for each different ailment. Below is a simple to use site that I have found . http://www.geocities.com/jrh_iii/acupressure/
